
He published his first novel “Angel Dust” in 1985 – and has been publishing one every year after that; all and all, almost thirty novels. His popularity has grown steadily and in Finland, he has sold over a million volumes.
Two movies and a play have been adapted from his novels.
“Vares – a Private Eye”, based on the novel “The Yellow Widow” premiered in 2004 and was the number one domestic box office movie of the year. “V2”, based on the novel “The Frozen Angel”, premiered in 2007. Vares also was on the theatrical stage in Turku in 2008.
Besides the Vares books, Reijo Mäki has published eight other novels and various collections of short stories and columns.
Vares novels have been translated into various languages and rights have been sold e.g. to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany and Estonia.
